Royal Ascot 2023

Going update after racing on day three

The going at Ascot is Good to Firm.

Chris Stickels, Ascot’s Clerk of the Course, said: “What a fantastic day we’ve had. It was brilliant to have Their Majesties’ first winner here during Royal Ascot, and then to have Frankie win the Gold Cup – wonderful racing performances all round.

“I am very pleased with the track. We changed it to Good to Firm after the second race, which was the first race on the Round Course, when it became clear that the Round Course had dried up too. I am very pleased with how it raced today, the jockeys were very complimentary about it again.

“We will aim to maintain current conditions by putting some water on tonight to replace the moisture that’s been lost today. So we are going to water the Straight Course with 5mm and the Round Course with 4mm.”

Attendance

The attendance for day three of Royal Ascot was 61,660.
